2015 Color of the Year: Marsala

WMI_2015colorThe holidays are upon us, and of course you know what that means: it’s almost the new year! 2014 went by fast in a whirlwind of Radiant Orchid dominating every color palette from fashion to home interior. For 2015, Pantone has announced that the color of the year is Marsala, a more earthy tone that is much easier to integrate into the home than bright orange, green, or purple like in years past. This color is described as a “robust and earthy wine red” and in my opinion is perfect for the winter season. Bring it into your home decor collection using cozy throws and pillows, or your closet with some comfy oversize sweaters. Perfect for that below freezing weather that will greet us in the new year!

  1. Hi segmation! According to the Wiki on Pantone, the color of the year is determined by a group of representatives that meeting twice a year. The wiki also says that the the guiding force for the color choice is the “zeitgeist,” i.e. the spirit of the age. An interior designer I’ve interviewed before discussed with me how the color is supposed to be an accentuating force for the year, to uplift, build confidence, provide reassurance. Here’s a link to the wiki article on Pantone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantone It includes a reference guide for the color of the year since 2000.
