I-90 Bridge Closures for Blue Angels: August 4th-August 7th, 2011

It’s that time of year again— the first weekend of August is the Albert Lee Cup out on Lake Washington and the accompanying performances by the Blue Angels.

Be advised that the I-90 Bridge closes for all practices and air show performances. The closures are scheduled between Thursday, August 4th and Sunday, August 7th.

  • Thursday, Aug. 4: 9:45 a.m. – noon & 1:15 – 2:30 p.m. (Practice)
  • Friday, Aug. 5: 12:45 p.m. – 2:40 p.m. (Practice)
  • Saturday, Aug. 6: 12:45 p.m. – 2:40 p.m. (Full show)
  • Sunday, Aug. 7: 12:45 p.m. – 2:40 p.m. (Full show)
  • The I-90 Bridge is scheduled to close to pedestrians and cyclists up to 30 minutes before the closure times listed above. This is including West Mercer Way, from Roanoke Way to the SE 24th.

Residents of Mercer Island, please note that access on West Mercer Way, from Roanoke Way to the 2100 block of West Mercer Way, will be limited to residents and their guests. Your guests need to be prepared to provide your address to police in order to drive through this limited access area during the bridge closures.

Planning ahead for the closures is heartily encouraged— Mercer Island residents should travel off or onto the Island one hour prior to and following the bridge closures. This will help drivers avoid traffic backups which occur during these closures.

Have any questions about why the bridge closes during the Blue Angel practices and performances? The city of Mercer Island has a Q & A page about the I-90 bridge closures.
